Hanging with BEES!! Over the school holidays, we went to Robina Town Centre with nanny & grandad to see the wonderful bees. Located on the Gold Coast, QLD, Australia. DID YOU KNOW THAT OVER A THIRD OF OUR GLOBAL FOOD SUPPLY RELIES ON POLLINATION BY THE HONEYBEE? In a world without bees, we would see the price of over 150 fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds rise by up to 500% almost immediately. - Mangos, strawberries, avocados, coffee, cotton, coconuts, cocoa, vanilla, cashews and almonds are just a few foods that are dependent on bees. - Honey is the only food that includes all the substances necessary to sustain life. - The average worker bee produces about 1/12th of a teaspoon of honey in her lifetime. - A hive of bees will fly 145,000 kilometres to collect 1kg of honey and will visit 50 to 100 flowers during a single collection trip. - Honeybees communicate with each other by vibration and dancing.
