THE ANXIOUS SPACE BETWEEN DESIGN AND ETHNOGRAPHY
There is currently a frenzy of activity happening at the nexus of ethnographic and design practices. Despite this, there remain epistemological, poetic, and political gaps that often go under-explored. Through examples and case studies, this presentation will consider what is gained, what is lost, and what is at stake in the coming together of these increasingly intertwined practices.
Jamer Hunt is the Vice Provost for Transdisciplinary Initiatives at The New School, where he was a founding director (2009-2015) of the graduate program in Transdisciplinary Design at Parsons School of Design. Jamer collaboratively designs open and flexible programs for participation that respond to emergent cultural conditions. He is also Visiting Design Researcher at the Institute of Design in Umea, Sweden.
