This is Jamaica's first national sports day (NSD) for the Deaf organised by Deaf Sports Jamaica (DSJ). It is part of the process of empowering all persons from the Deaf Community in a way that will allow them to one day participate in international competition. For nearly 10 years I have been doing documentaries on the Deaf in Jamaica as well a written features. In 2008 I started training a Deaf Table Tennis Team at Caribbean Christian Centre for the Deaf (CCCD) with a view to taking them to the Deaflympics in Taipei but it did not work for that year. Worked on writing a constitution and now 2 years later Deaf Sports Jamaica is a reality as Kevin McDonald, Rian Gayle and others came forward to serve. Juici Patties was our main sponsor along with MLSS, Minister Andrew Gallimore, Opti-care, Jamaica Association for the Deaf (JAD) manchester high school of mandeville (MHS) provided the platform. I have been serving as PRO for DSJ as well as the National Table tennis coach JTTA. next year we hope to go to Brazil.
