Jaipur: Pink City

Having elected not to take the train, the one ride we had already was plenty, we will leave Ranthambhore by bus. We wait for a few of our group to get back from a tiger safari, so it's late morning when we start. . Jaipur is only about 80 miles away but some of the road is not good -- some is. The bus trip goes quickly enough. The views of roadside "rural" India from our comfy Volvo bus are good as always. We've got some pix. We arrive in Jaipur, check into another excellent hotel; then immediately head out for the "Bazar" in an old section of town. After a whirlwind trip through the Bazar, some of the group did manage to buy stuff, we head by bus to the nearby large centrally located home of a now disenfranchised Rajput family. Apparently they are reduced to hosting groups on tourists like ourselves. Dinner is ok, but the host family and the ambience are more extraordinary to North Americans with egalitarian pretensions such as ours. Next morning we head our to the historic and magnificent Amer Fort. We transfer from a bus to a jeep that takes us close to the entrance traditionally used by commoners. We hike the last part by foot; others, not in our group, arrive amid percussion music atop elephants. The video is Part 8 of our India Wow! trip.
