TRENDING | An Israeli Hollywood director's short film has been nominated for an Academy Award. 'Skin' is about the rising wave of neo-nazism in America. Guy Nattiv talks to host Emily Frances about the journey of the film.
Story:
Israeli director Guy Nattiv’s film 'Skin' was nominated for an Oscar on Tuesday in the category 'best live action short film.'
The film centers around the character Bryon Widner, a young man raised in a white supremacy milieu who decides to turn his back on violence with the help of an African American activist.
Widner’s decision to break from the racist community is also influenced by his involvement with a woman who forbids her children to be around Widner’s peers.
In the category 'best picture', Netflix made history when its movie 'Roma' became the first ever film to be nominated for an Oscar by a streaming service. The black-and-white film tied with 'The Favourite' for most nominations, receiving 10 each.
Here are the nominees in key categories for the 91st Academy Awards, to be handed out on February 24 in Hollywood.
