Skyros is is a Greek island in the Aegean Sea, part of the Sporades archipelago. It’s known for its beaches, jagged coastline, sea caves and seaside villages. Skyros town, or Chora, is in the forested northern part of the island. It has white cube-shaped houses and the remains of a Venetian kastro, or castle on a crag above the town. Greece is a country in southeastern Europe with thousands of islands throughout the Aegean and Ionian seas. Influential in ancient times, it's often called the cradle of Western civilization. Athens, its capital, retains landmarks including the 5th-century B.C. Acropolis citadel with the Parthenon temple.
