Is Pakistan planing to promote Gen Raheel Sharif as field marshal

Speculations are high if General Raheel Sharif whose tenure as  chief of the army staff is coming to an end will be promoted to the position of  field marshal, a ceremonial position, for his services in the country's war against terror. With General Raheel Sharif 's term coming to an end in November, and no official word yet on whether he would get an extension by the Nawaz Sharif government despite strong lobbying to keep Shariff in harness for a second term, a new angle has been proposed by analysts here: to promote him as five-star field marshal. Pakistan has had only one field marshal in its 70 years as a state: Ayub Khan, who had bestowed the honour upon himself. The line-up of possible contenders for the position of new chief includes chief of general staff, Lt Gen Zubair Hayat, Multan Corps commander Lt Gen Ishfaq Nadeem Ahmed, Bahawalpur Corps commander Lt Gen Javed Iqbal Ramday and inspector general, training and evaluation, Lt Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa.
