Sunscreens acne be definitely be applied around the eye, but one need to be very careful while applying sun screen. Make a thin film out of the sunscreen, put a very thin smear around your eye and take care that the sunscreen very near the eye. So make sure that the sunscreen does not go very near the lid margin, but make sure you apply sunscreen around your eye because it is very important area for the sunscreen to be in. Most of the sunburns do happen around your lid and more so because the skin in this area is 10 times more thinner. You can imagine how sensitive the area around the eyeball would be.
