The President of Football Federation Tasmania (FFT), Sean Collins, today announced the appointment of Deloitte to assist FFT in identifying the future infrastructure needs for the game in Tasmania.
"Football is the sport with the highest participation levels in Tasmania and continues to grow at an exciting rate," Mr Collins said.
"With this in mind, it is vital that we start planning now for a dedicated Home of Football in Tasmania.
"With the number of young players growing consistently over recent years, we have seen the grounds available to junior football struggle to cope with the demands on them, particularly when they are affected by bad weather.
"We need to cater for young people to play our game all year round and in all weather conditions."
Mr Collins said the recent growth of women's football and small-sided competitions had been exceptional and that FFT anticipated further growth in the coming years, placing additional demands on current infrastructure.
"It is important that we take an evidence-based approach to the potential of our game and how we plan to ensure that our infrastructure meets the future demand," Collins said.
"Deloitte will bring their expertise to consult with our stakeholders, using an electronic process they have developed, and then provide us with a blueprint for meeting the future demands.
"When we receive the results, FFT will map out a strategy and timeline and funding models for developing the Home of Football so that we can allow more people to play our game at all levels.
"This will enhance efforts to build healthier communities, will encourage greater community interaction and build a pathway for people to develop their skills to be the best players that they can be."
