Interview Showcase - Shawn Parker of CeaseFire Halifax

In the past year, Halifax experienced a staggering 12 homicides. CeaseFire is an organization that started in Chicago and has offices in England to Kenya. CeaseFire Halifax is a non-profit, community-based organization partially funded by Public Safety Canada, Nova Scotia Department of Justice and implanted by the Nova Scotia Community Justice Society. They aim to try to eliminate violence, in particular gun violence, by working directly with those who run a high risk of becoming or are currently involved in violent activity. Our focus is on African Nova Scotian males between the ages of 16 and 24 years old. CeaseFire Halifax focuses on the communities of North and Central Halifax, North Dartmouth, North Preston and East Preston. Shawn Parker is a member of Ceasefire. He has decades of experience working with youth and changing their lives for the better. Shawn joins us today to discuss the future of Halifax, making a positive change in the community, and his experiences with the youth.
