The International Petroleum Expositions were held on Tulsa's Fairgrounds near 15th and Yale. The IPEs or "oil shows" were a somewhat glamorous way to show off the latest technologies and techniques in the petroleum industry.
Both the IPE Building and the Golden Driller are remnants from those oil shows which in the 1970s moved to Houston, TX.
