Inside the Israeli Army: Experience of women fighting alongside men on equal terms

Sun, sea and sand - and tense security situation. Helicopters overhead, soldiers on the streets. The Israeli armed forces, the IDF, was created some two weeks after the state of Israel was declared in 1948. It's military and on-going fighting with the Palestians offers perhaps some lessons to countries around the world facing armed conflicts of their own. Ukraine, fighting Russian-backed militants in its eastern regions, has been cited as one country which could learn from the Israeli scenario. Israel has a universal law on militarly service - what singles the country out is that women fight and serve alongside men in all the same roles.
