Indian Classical Vocal Raga Basant Phagwa Brij Dekhan and Geli Geli- Presenting two traditional bandishes/compositions which have been merged together. Both herald the spring season (Basant) and are filled with romantic connotations. Overflowing with playfulness and romance, these two songs will fill your heart with happiness and love! "Styai: Phagavaa brij dekhan ko chalo ri Phagave mein milenge kunwar kaanha jahan Baat takat bole kagawaa Antara: Aayi bahaar sabhi ban phoole Rasiley lal ko levo garawa" The protagonist says to her friend: Let us go to see the beautiful season of Basant at Brij (Lord Krishna is said to have spent his childhood and adolescence in Brij). The messenger bird has told me that in this spring season, we will meet Lord Krishna. When spring arrives, the entire garden will be filled with the sweet scent of flowers. I will embrace Krishna in this beautiful season. Here are the lyrics for the second bandish, an incredibly beautiful gem from Agra Gharana, my Guru's musical lineage. "Styai: Geli geli endi endi Dore sab naar, garwa laage rang barase, Rutu basant maan aayi, Joban maat bes tori Antara: Sola u singaar kare aba rain Peran peran paijan Gund gund gund laao, abir gulal liye barjori" The poet describes the spring season and the fervor that goes with it. The women of the village are welcoming the season by adorning themselves with fresh flowers, jewelry and swinging on jhulaas (traditional Indian swing) . They tell each other to dress up in their finery and prepare some abir gulal (coloured mixture) used for playing holi with their friends. Absolutely honored to have the very versatile and well-known harmonium player Ajay Joglekarji as an accompanist; Tabla accompaniment is by the very talented Hemant Joshi. We had a wonderful time recording it; hope you enjoy it as much as we did working on this. Thanks also to everyone at Musica (Audio recording) and Ridham (Video shoot).
