In the footsteps of Pheidippides (1st Spartathlon - 1983)

Spartathlon: the beginning. Copy of a rare 1983 documentary by Francis Carabott about the RAF expedition in 1982 and the first official Spartathlon race in 1983. Includes footage of the race and victory of the -unknown at that time- Greek runner Yiannis Kouros, destined to launch with this victory his legendary career in ultra running. English narration version. This copy was saved thanks to Mr. Manolis Prokopakis who kept a VHS copy in his files from the early 80's up until 2012, when it was digitized and uploaded to youtube by me. Mr. Prokopakis is one of the first people involved in Spartathlon and in this video you can see him driving the car with the big timer.
