Coronary stents have been used to treat heart diseases for decades. Now a new use has been found for stents: treating erectile dysfunction. Last year medical device maker Medtronic completed a clinical trial which found that a stent implanted in the penile artery can improve blood flow to the penis and thus improve erectile function. The trial was funded by Medtronic, which makes stents. It found 68 percent improvement in erectile function after three months in 30 men with an average age of 60 who were implanted with stents.
