Divya Vellanki, VMware Session length: 30 minutes Impostor Syndrome is a psychological phenomenon in which people despite external evidence of their competence, remain convinced that they are frauds and do not deserve the success they have achieved. Success is attributed to luck. This feeling is not unique to one group but it is common in high achievers as people are left on their own, the competition is intense, and there’s not much of a mentor system. Self-esteem, Laziness, Downplaying cost of inaction, Overgeneralization (Taking a single negative effect as an infinite spiral of defeat) are some of the reasons why one may not be aware of this self-deception. My session would summarize my view on how or why women are or may be subjected to Impostor syndrome in their phase of life and what they can do to curb this syndrome.
