A new series about two good fine stones: Imanishi Bester 4000 grit and Imanishi Bester 8000 grit. You can find them here: http://www.fine-tools.com/bester.html --------------------------------------- Of course they are overkill for such a cheap and soft stainless steel knife but it is part of the testing because many of us who consider buying these stones occasionally will sharpen such knives. We all have friends and family who have such knives. For me the final result is good - the blade is sharp enough for most of the regular kitchen tasks but I must note that the combination between low edge angle and soft steel as usual does not have good edge retention as higher angle and much coarser (220-320 grit range) finish. ------------------------------------------------ The stones are real pleasure to use. They required soak before use - many people soak them for 10 to 15 minutes, other - for close to 30 minutes. I tried both and there is a slight difference in their behavior. So I will say you can benefit from longer soak but if you are in a hurry a 10 minutes will do the job. --------------------------------------------------------------------- For things as slurry formation, clogging, dishing I will write a short summary in the description box of the last video part. ----------------------------------------------- I used these stone for a little lapping experiment which will show what difference in the surface of the stones you can expect with lapping plate, with sandpaper, with abrasive grain on glass... Stay tuned for more videos and info. -------------------------- For the full process of lapping them you can check my previous video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gXwK5j48DWE&ab_channel=StefanWolf -------------------------------- In some of the picture you can easily can see the deep scratches left from the 220 grit Naniwa lapping plate. -------------------- I must thank a fellow knife fan for giving me the opportunity to try these stones - Cheers buddy!
