Icom IC-7000's started arriving at all Ham Radio Outlet locations this week, so I took the opportunity to stop in and pick one up. This is the first mobile HF rig with D-Star Capability, allowing a user to use DV mode on the HF bands like on the Icom IC-9100. This radio further establishes Icom's new paradigm for how users interact with D-Star by including GPS enabled "Near Repeater" functionality, full D-Star Repeater Lists, and the list of all D-PLUS Reflector nodes.
While this radio is game changing, it is not without its flaws, but overall, we seem to have a winner. I will do an in-depth full review before summer's end.
I can't wait to see what Icom introduces when they replace the aging IC-2820 with the next generation of their flagship VHF/UHF radio!
