European drivers have enjoyed an enduring love affair with one of Hyundai Motor’s flagship SUV models, the Tucson. Its launch in 2015 exceeded all others by the Korean manufacturer and its popularity quickly made it a brand ambassador for Hyundai on the continent. Since its premiere on the market, the Tucson has been Hyundai’s best-selling car in Europe. Within three months of its on-sale date, the car achieved 85,000 orders. In its first year of production the compact SUV contributed to Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Czech (HMMC) factory operating at full capacity. Mass-production at the plant started in November 2008 with the Hyundai i30 while a cross-functional team of 80 engineers adapted the production line specially to introduce the Tucson. Today, annual production capacity at the facility in the Czech Republic is 300,000 cars and 600,000 transmissions. Soon it will begin production of a brand new version of a much-loved car, the New Tucson. The extension of the Kona’s powertrain line-up follows the launch of the Kona Electric, which has set a milestone in the market of zero-emission driving. To increase the efficiency of the regular Kona while boosting its driving dynamics, Hyundai now offers Smartstream powertrain technology to meet long-term CO2 emission goals. The new downsized turbocharged engine is available across Europe with the New Kona from summer 2018. With the New Kona we entered the subcompact SUV segment to strengthen the brand’s SUV heritage. It builds on 1.6 million SUV unit sales in Europe since the launch of the Santa Fe in 2001. By developing a completely new compact SUV and equipping it with the latest powertrain technology, we are meeting the highest European customer expectations.
