Hello, everyone. And welcome to ForB's English lesson video. I'm Robbie. And today we're doing pronunciation. Pronunciation of "work" and "walk". A lot of people have difficulty pronouncing these two words correctly. They're very similar, but at the same time different. Let's look at the difference in pronunciation. Let's start with "work."
OK. So of course, W sound is "w, w." OK. This sound is "rr, rr." So, it's a very tight sound with your tongue back and the "R" sound. "rr." OK. And of course "k." So, put it together. " w-rr-k, w-rr-k, work, work." OK. Now you try. OK.
Now, let's look at "walk, walk." OK. A little bit different. It's a little bit longer than "work." The "a" sound is a little bit longer than the "rr." OK? So, let's start with the W same as this of course. "W, w, aa". It's a little bit longer "aa." "L" is silent. "k". OK. Together. "w -a-k, w-a-k, walk." OK. And maybe you notice, my chin drops with this sound. "waaalk, waalk, walk." OK.
Compared to this word "work, work, work, work." "Walk, walk, walk." It's a little bit longer and your jaw drops. OK. Now you try. "work, work, work." "walk, walk, walk." OK. See? The jaw drops. OK?
Let's look at a sentence number one with the word "work." So, "I will work, I will work, I will work." OK. Now you try. OK. And of course. "I will work tomorrow." OK. "I will work tomorrow." OK? Alright. Let's look at number two. "I will walk tomorrow. I will walk." "I will walk, I will walk, I will walk." OK. Now you try.
OK. Now let me test you. I'm going to read number one sentence or number two sentence and you tell me if I'm saying number one or number two. OK? Test. OK. Here we go.
"I will walk." That's number two. "I will walk." OK. Next. "I will walk." If you guessed number two, you're correct. "I will walk." "I will walk." Again. Number two. "I will walk." Next. "I will work, I will work." Maybe now you can guess that's number one. "I will work, I will work." OK? OK. One more. "I will work". If you guessed number one, that's correct. "I will work."
OK? So, maybe two main points here. "rr" sound. Work. Tight. Tongue back for "rr" sound. "worr, work." "Walk." Jaw drops. "A" sound is a little bit longer. "walk." OK. Let's finally review one more time. Work vs. walk. I'm going to read work walk work walk work walk. Three times. OK. Ready? Work, walk, work, walk, work, walk. OK.
I hope this lesson was clear and helpful. Thank you very much for watching. I'm Robbie. See you next time.
