In this video, I'm going to share with you five tips on how to make your Ample Guitar sound realistic. It can be a tricky thing to achieve, especially if you're not a guitarist, but this tutorial will definiltiy help you to achieve better results.
Indeed, I'm going to talk about the main differences between a guitar VST and piano. Too many players fail to make a guitar VST sound realistic because they play the instrument like we would play a piano.
Tip number 1 : the way you'd play music on a keyboard is not always applicable on a virtual guitar. For example, on piano, a basic E minor is built with a simple triad of notes (root note, third, fifth). On guitar, the basic E minor contains 6 notes : root note, fifth, octave note, third, fifth, octave note.
Tip number 2 : for a guitarist, it is very difficult to pluck two or more strings at the very same time. When you play with a keyboard, you can press two or three notes all at once. With a guitar, the hand needs to go downward or upward and will stroke the strings one after the other. Therefore, when you play several notes at the "same" time, there should be a slight delay between them.
Tip number 3 : keep in mind that a guitarist can't play notes that are too distant on the guitar fretboard. On a keyboard, you have two hands doing the same thing : choosing notes and generate sound. On a guitar, one hand chooses the notes, and the other hand generate the sound. So unless you programm guitar solos, you should play notes or chords that are close to each other.
Tip number 4 : keeping your song simple is the best way to achieve good results ! For example, let's try to find a apreggio or a strumming pattern, let's choose a chord, and let's create a melody by changing a few notes.
Tip number 5 : select the right sample library ! The Finger library is made for strumming, solos and arpeggios ; the Strum library is only suited for strumming ; and the Pick library is recommended for arpeggios and solos.
