How to Break Your Ankle in Zion - Caught on Video+Rescue *Language Warning*

Allow me to paint the scene. Me and my 3 friends were hiking the Narrows in Zion National Park. We were about 3-4 hours into the hike when we decide to turn around and head back. No later than 5 minuets after turning around, our buddy Zach takes a slip and breaks his ankle ( in 3 places according to the X-rays). Our first response kicked in, we got him out of the water, made a makeshift brace, elevated the foot, checked for shock, then ensured he stayed hydrated and kept the sunscreen rolling. Our other buddy Jared was picked to be a runner and made the 4 mile hike back out of the canyon to alert park rangers. It took Jared about 1-1 1/2 hours to make it out while hurrying, and another 3 or so hours for the Zion search and rescue team to make it back to us with all their gear. When they reached us, They did an initial survey of Zach, then prepared to put him on a litter and carry him out. The techniques and skills they showed are incomparable. They got him out in about 3 hours where we then put him in the car and drove an hour to the nearest hospital. He is doing fine now, but will need surgery. As well as other hikers who passed by and offered us extra water and even some aspirin for Zack. this was 3 out of the 4 of us first time to Zion, and its a trip we will never forget!
