Days of seclusion and time in the wilderness gave Sylka Snyder the chance to escape her depression. Though it may not work for all, Sylka encourages us to find our own way to improve our mental health. Sylka is currently finishing her senior year at Battle Mountain High School. She grew up in Vail, CO and has lived there for her whole life. She was sent to a therapeutic wilderness program her freshman year of high school due to her depression, and from this experience, she became interested in raising awareness of mental health. She loves being outdoors, it is one of the few things that truly makes her happy. Her wilderness experience has changed her life and has been the most significant step she has taken to becoming the person she is today. She has applied to various colleges and in the next chapter of her life, she hopes to study psychology at a university where she can be involved in the community and also keep in touch with the outdoors. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
