The high court has declined to issue orders suspending the 16 per cent vat on fuel. Activist Okiya Omtatah and the central organization of trade unions had sought to have the vat on petroleum products suspended. But Justice Chacha Mwita ruled that the legislative process was incomplete since President Uhuru Kenyatta has not assented to or rejected the finance bill of 2018. This came as ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi urged President Kenyatta to assent to the bill which was passed by parliament last week postponing the implementation of the vat until the year 2020.
