Yosemite National Park, Horse Tail Falls Fire Fall Phenomenon February 18th, 2019.
Horse Tail falls is a seasonal waterfall that flows only in the winter and early spring. The Fall generates on the east side of the legendary El Capitan.
So this photograph can only be created in late February, hundreds of spectators gather in Yosemite to witness this amazing event. Several occurrences must happen to trigger the Fire fall. If conditions are not perfect, the Yosemite Fire fall will NOT glow.
During this time of year it needs to be warm enough for the snow to melt on top for the waterfall to occur, second, the sky needs to be clear. If the conditions are cloudy then the suns rays will be blocked and the horse tail will not light up. Winter in Yosemite is highly variable. If everything comes together you have Horse Tail Falls being illuminated by the sun so perfectly for only 10 mins. It seriously does look like lava. Im so thankful that the cloud decided to move giving me literally one shot at this.
The sound was amazing hearing everyones shutters closing and people gasping in amazement while in below freezing temperatures with snow up to the waist in some places. At the end of it, We drove a total of 10+ hours in under 24 hours to come and witness it. Was it worth it? Every second. Next year I’m going to get a different angle I am totally looking forward to it.
