Video from October, 2010 of family hike to Macrae Peak, part of Grandfather Mountain (http://www.grandfather.com/). The hikes are a bit strenuous, and the trails a little precarious, but for those those who attempt you are awarded some outstanding vista of mountains along the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Grandfather Mountain is located just east of Linville Falls, North Carolina. Its a private mountain that has an admission price, but well worth it if you take advantage of the hikes. Most visitors walk the Mile High Swinging Bridge, take a few photos, buy a souvenir and leave.
As you can tell from this video the fall peak colors bring the largest crowds, plan accordingly. Those who waited till midday to drive to the park ran into an hour long traffic jam waiting to ascend the mountain, so get there early during peak color weekends.
