HANG ON BACK FILTRATION - TIPS & HACKS

I've certainly spent a lot of time talking about sumps and canisters lately, but I can't recall the last time I talked about hang-on-back filtration. HOB's provide a great option for filtration. They are flexible, inexpensive and do a great job at both cleaning and creating water movement. They are also very easy to service, second in ease of use, in my opinion, only to sumps. Here I talk about how I've modified the HOB on my 60 gal. my "#JUVIEHAPNATION" grow-out tank. The tank featured has coral/shell substrate, lava rock and "Wonder Stone" decor and is home to my Lethrinops Red Cap who just became a father! This tank is filtered by two SunSun 302-B's and a Marineland Emperior 400 dual bio-wheel unit that I picked up for next to nothing when it was thrown in with a used aquarium I purchased a while back. It sat around for almost a year but fired right up and has been running strong from the moment I first plugged it in. Truly an under rated filter. Here I show you what I've stuffed in the two chambers of this filter. It's not what you might expect but it certainly is working well for me and is a lot less expensive than throwing out and replacing factory filter cartridges every month. Take a look and share in the comments below what you think and if you have any tips and hacks that might help others (and me) to "pimp" my filter further. I learn as much from you (probably more) than you learn from me! Thanks for tuning in and come expand the conversation at the "Ben O'Cichlid" Facebook group page.
