Guilty Verdict Brings Justice for Chance

Yesterday evening, the man who abused and abandoned the dog who would become our beloved Deputy Chance was found guilty of aggravated animal abuse, a third-degree felony. Prosecutors John Dommerich Jr. and Tyler Lovejoy told the jury that DNA evidence proved Oscar Lee Thompson was the only person to touch the 11 pieces of tape that were wrapped tightly around Chance's snout. "Oscar Lee Thompson is a despicable human being," stated Sheriff Carmine Marceno. "Deputy Chance has truly been given a second chance, and he'll live the rest of his life surrounded by love and support." While this guilty verdict brings Chance's fight for justice to a close, his story is far from over. He is a walking reminder that, with a little bit of time and a whole lot of love, everyone can have a second "Chance" at life.
