British High Street bakery chain Greggs caused a bit of a stir last week when they announced a Vegan version of their best-selling Steak Bake. This follows last year's introduction of the immensely popular vegan sausage roll which caused a significant increase in their profits. Whatever you think about veggie/vegan food mimicking meat-based things like burgers, pies, etc, there's no doubt that this helps many people overcome their reservations about a meat-free diet. I got hold of a couple of Greggs vegan steakbakes to try, and then had a go at making my own version.
