Local residents and workers at Chania International Airport, Crete, rallied against the visiting representatives of the German-led consortium that is due to take over the airport as part of the Greek government’s first big privatisation deal, Tuesday.
Dozens of workers expressed their anger at the representatives of airport operator Fraport, who visited “Daskalogiannis” airport to inspect the infrastructure and equipment.
In December, the Greek government awarded German airport operator Fraport a €1.2 billion ($1.31 billion) contract to lease and manage 14 regional airports, many of them on popular tourist islands, for 40 years. The consortium is due to take over operations in the autumn.
