A dream come true to finally document a glider flying a 750km FAI triangle record flight! The sailplane in this flight took off from Nephi, Utah and flew to Mormon Mesa, Colorado (in the middle of nowhere!), then flew over the amazing San Rafael and Cedar Mountain recreation areas (basically the moon here on earth) on its way to near Cedar City, Utah and then back up north to Nephi to complete the course. The flight has been submitted and multiple Utah state glider records possibly were achieved. Here is a link to view where the flight went: http://www.onlinecontest.org/olc-2.0/gliding/flightinfo.html?dsId=3829255
The conditions the first half of the flight were challenging but were quite fun to fly in. The result was a slower cross country speed during this time on course, but the clouds and virga made for some amazing views! That is the fun part of record flying - you get to go back and try to do better.
The glider is an ASW27B - fifteen meter glider and the cameras used during filming are a GoPro2 up front that has had a run in with a black magic marker and a GoPro Hero3 for the rear camera.
Sorry to have the call at the end of a long 7 hour flight (and video) and I feel like keeping the footage in this video helps to honor my good friend Jeff Knell who was lost in a glider accident during the same time this flight took place. This video is dedicated to him. We will miss you greatly Jeff. Thanks for watching! Bruno - B4
