Girls rescued from an FGM initiation ceremony in Kuria County

A ten year old girl and a 21 year old female have been rescued from undergoing forced FGM in Kuria Migori County and are currently housed at Komotobo rescue centre. The number of girls seeking refuge at rescue centers has increased during the month of November when the practice is at its peak. Police stormed an initiation ceremony and arrested those preparing to carry out the outlawed practice. This comes as two female circumcisers in the county were released on a five hundred shilling bond on Tuesday, in what FGM activists have termed as a slap on the wrist.
