Qasidat al-Burda ("The Poem of the Scarf") is a poem in praise of the prophet Muhammad composed by the 13th-century Egyptian Sufi mystic al-Busiri. Al-Busiri had been stricken with paralysis through an entire half of his body. He wrote this poem in praise of the prophet and recited it incessantly, praying for divine intercession. That night, Muhammad visited al-Busiri in his dream and invested him with a scarf/shawl. The next morning, al-Busiri found that his body was restored, and he was able to walk once again.
The miracle of al-Busiri's healing spread, and since then, this poem has been recited by Muslims around the world to praise God for His compassion and to seek His aid in overcoming any obstacles. Ghayoor-Moiz-Mustafa Qawwal present it here in their tradition of Delhi gharana qawwali.
