In this video David talks about "in your face" vocals, how to get that overcompressed sound that we hear on rock, hip-hop and pop vocals, aggressive but still smooth and pleasant to hear. He explains how important is to prep your vocals for heavy compression, using automation on levels, eq and most important the difference between doing automation before or after compression, how that changes the beavior of the compressor, how it reacts to the material, how the distortion that is introduced changes whether you do the automation before or after compression, how the different approaches give you a different result in how smooth and yet aggressive your vocal sound will be at the end of the processing.
