Thousands of people joined a rally in Berlin on Saturday, to protest against gentrification and a rising rents in the German capital.
Clashes erupted as demonstrators tried to occupy a building, with police forces shoving people and escorting out the occupiers amid protests. According to reports, activists had tried to occupy a building which housed a vegetable shop, the owner of which had his lease terminated at 28 years to make way for luxury apartments.
The rally started in Alexanderplatz, with people marching towards the district of Kreuzberg and demanding an end to real estate speculation and rising prices.
Similar protests are taking place across major German cities on Saturday.
