Playwright, director, and screenwriter Garson Kanin was born November 24, 1912 and died on March 13, 1999 in New York City. He graduated from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and began working with George Abbott. His most notable plays include Born Yesterday and Do, Re, Mi. He directed The Diary of Anne Frank and Funny Girl on Broadway. For his friends, Katherine Hepburn and Spencer Tracey, he wrote Pat and Mike and Adam’s Rib. Kanin was married to his collaborator, Ruth Gordon, and later to actress Marian Seldes. Garson Kanin was interviewed by Mike Wood in March of 1987, in Los Angeles.
