The amount of visible light that is able to enter through your car windows is measured in a percentage called the VLT, or Visible Light Transmission. The higher the VLT the more light will be allowed to pass through the glass. So, for example, a 70% window tint film will allow more light to pass through your windows than a 30% tint film. If a car has a 0% tint this basically means that 0% of the outside light will pass through the tinted windows. Always keep in mind that the percentage of light allowed through your windows and glass in Florida will most likely be different than the other 49 states and is very specific. Believe it or not, states have different laws for regular cars (Sedan) compared to SUVs or vans. =================================== SEDANS Let's start by talking about the legal tint darkness allowed for sedans. Front Windshield: Non-reflective tint is allowed above the manufacturer's AS-1 line. Front seat side windows: up to 28% tint darkness allowed Back seat side windows: up to 15% tint darkness allowed Rear window: up to 15% tint darkness allowed SUVS AND VANS Now let's go over the legal tint darkness for SUVs and vans. Front Windshield: Non-reflective tint is allowed above the manufacturer's AS-1 line. Front seat side windows: up to 28% tint darkness allowed Back seat side windows: up to 6% tint darkness allowed Rear window: up to 6% tint darkness allowed =================================== OTHER RULES There are many other rules set in the state of Florida regarding window tint. Which of these extra rules and regulations should you know about before getting behind the wheel? Side Mirrors: Dual side mirrors are required in case any back windows are tinted. Window Tint Color Restrictions: No tint colors are allowed in Florida Certifications: Film manufacturers don't need to certify the film they sell in this state. Stickers: The sticker to identify legal tinting is required on the inside of the driver’s side door jamb. Medical Exceptions: Florida allows medical exemptions for special tint.
