Easily debunked but highly clickable, fake news is becoming rampant online. Facebook has begun to employ “third party fact-checkers” to flag allegedly fake news. Users of Facebook will be able to flag posts they consider dubious and such posts are to be passed on to Snopes, Associated Press, and other “fact checker coalitions” to verify whether the content of the post is true or not. Who gets to decide for Facebook what source is legitimate and what is not? The trouble is, some of these groups have themselves been accused of partiality. RT correspondent Polly Boiko has the story.
