About the Short:
It's MOvember! But I didn't grow a MO. The night before the Los Angeles GALA, I get a text from a guy I work with. He asks if I'm going... but I've got no mustache, so no. He then implies that he may or may not have used one of the companies top secret technologies to grow a mustache by using the highly experimental mustache growth application on the Lexmark scanner/copier. Despite knowing it's under development and there are issues with the program - I want to attend the GALA, so against better judgement, I use the app.... and strange things happen in there, but luckily I grow my MO with great success... and even freak out another co-worker who saw me only moments before!

Inspiration:
This year on my MOvember campaign, I wanted to capture mustache growth differently. I've seen and done the "Take a picture of myself everday" thing. It's neat, but wanted to do something different - so this is it - I set up the scanner and took 3-5 scans of my face every morning and every evening every day of November. I wanted to capture the growth day by day and have a little fun with it by trying some scanner animation. There is NO photoshop involved, just somewhat meticulous scanning every single day.
To see 1080p HD of the scans.... check out this youtube video (I had rendering issues, so wasn't able to make an HD version of this video)

The clean face shots were done on November 1st so I could have the clean face.
The text messages and end scene was shot on November 30th.
Scans were taken every day, which meant I had to drive to work on weekends and over the Thanksgiving holiday. It was worth it.
The video shots were taken in case I felt the need to try and put an intro/outro to the scans. I figured it wouldn't hurt, even tho I stink at editing.
About the scans... these are pretty hard to do. I would sometimes have to take 5-6 scans to get the positioning correct and the right facial expressions and locations of the sunglasses, razor, savior MO, etc before I was able to take my "real" scans. Also - I ended up getting a pretty major haircut during the month (had a MO shaved into the back of my head b/c my team reached a fund raising milestone), and didn't think ahead to maybe try and wear a black shirt each day, as you can see the shirts changing... then again... that could just be an artifact/side effect of the "experimental app"....

About Movember:
During Movember (the month formerly known as November) men across the globe grow a Mo (mustache). That's right - we all rock the Mo because we are passionate about tackling men's health issues and being proactive in the fight against men's health issues, namely prostate cancer. We use the upper lip sweaters to raise awareness and funds which will go to organizations such as the Prostate Cancer Foundation and the LIVESTRONG Foundation.
Did you know:
* The American Cancer Society estimated that in 2010 there were 217,730 new cases of prostate cancer and 32,000 deaths from prostate cancer
* Regular screenings and early detection significantly increase odds of survival
* Cancer is the second largest killer of men in the USA
* 1/2 of all men and 1/3 of all women will get some form of cancer in their lifetime
So far the world total is over $103 Million USD! Donations close on December 8th, 2011. If you see this video before then and want to help... pass it on or donate. If you see this after, check out our teams progress... there are some funny photos too!

Shot with:
Canon Powershot 300 HS - 1080p (was really amazed this little point and shoot worked so well)
GoPro HD Hero - 1080p HD R5 setting
Lexmark Scanner/Copier - Set to ~11 x17" with 600dpi, black and white
Edited:
Everything was edited in Quicktime 7 Pro. It's all I have. I bet if I had other software, it would still stink... I'm no film professional... no real editing or filming skills... just ideas and bad execution! hahaha. It's fun tho.
