This kick sample has so much #energy in areas to which the human ear is not very sensitive that when placed at the desired volume in the mix its energy surpasses the rest of the kit becoming the only element affecting the dynamic processors in the master as we see. Our challenge is to find a way to reduce its dynamic range without decreasing its perceived volume, we could use a compressor or a limiter as we have seen before but being such a short sound the best solution is to use a #clipper. Our favorite clipper is SIR StandardCLIP. All we have to do is select HARD CLIP and reduce CLIP (threshold) until we see a considerable amount of white signal converted to red on the screen. As you can hear when we BYPASS the #plugin, the sound remains practically unchanged while the signal level drops considerably in the meters, especially in the limiter. *All the music featured in this channel is our own unless otherwise stated.
