England stay on course to qualify for Euro 92 but come in for criticism for their performance in beating Turkey 1-0 at Wembley in October 1991. The Turks had lost 5-0 and 8-0 on their two visits to Wembley in recent years but this time around they look much improved and go close on several occasions to scoring. Alan Smith scores the only goal to give England a rather fortunate victory, leaving them needing just a point away to Poland in the final qualifier a month later to go through. The Turkey match ultimately marks the end of England careers for Bryan Robson and Chris Waddle after 90 and 62 caps respectively.
