To some it is a wild frontier town, that grew very rapidly with no-rules architecture, that exists only to host a port launching cruise ships to Antarctica and gives tourists "bragging rights" to say that they have been to "The End of the World"; to others it is a great place to move for work from all over Argentina and other parts of South America, since the central government (in an effort to prevent Chile from annexing this outpost) has created a duty free zone and light manufacturing hub; yet for European National and Olympic ski teams, it is a most modern base and complex in the World to train from June through September; for me it is a rugged land of wild beauty and exotic wildlife. Channel and penguins here are named after Magellan. Weather could be a challenge and locals say that you can have 4 seasons in a single day. Both Chile and Argentina share this land and border is very close in most places you go. Before the Europeans came here, the Natives went naked year around by covering their bodies in seal fat that along with round the clock fires kept them dry and warm. Dress warmly!
