Chemical experiments - reaction between Hydrogen Peroxide and Potassium Permanganate.
Elephant toothpaste is a foamy substance caused by the rapid decomposition of hydrogen peroxide. This is often used for classroom demonstrations because it requires only a small number of ingredients and makes a "volcano of foam". This sometimes known as the "Marshmallow Experiment", but is unrelated to the psychological Stanford marshmallow experiment.
For this fun experiment you will need:
1. Potassium permanganate is an inorganic chemical compound with the chemical formula KMnO4. It is a salt consisting of K+ and MnO−4 ions. Formerly known as permanganate of potash or Condy's crystals, it is a strong oxidizing agent.
2. Hydrogen peroxide is a chemical compound with the formula H
2O2. Be careful! Do not touch!!
3. Dishwashing liquid, or any well-foaming liquid (shampoo, liquid soap, bath foam, etc.).
4. Water
Use gloves! Do not touch! Conduct experiments only in the presence of adults!
