Now that we're in Riften, we have to wrap around the city to the North Gate, where we fight a thief. The guards let us in, then I find Brynjolf in the Bee and Barb Inn. He won't tell me where Esbern is until I do some dirty thievery work for him. I must snatch a ring from Madesi's stash and place it as evidence on Brand-Shei's person. I manage to be stealthy enough to pull it off, and Brynjolf directs me to the Ratway, where I will eventually find Esbern.
