This is a simple way to flush the transmission and add an inline filter on a 2004 Volvo XC70. This will work on all of the XC70s 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007. and it will probably work on many V70s. I forgot to mention in the video that this Volvo transmission does not have a filter. That is why I added the inline filter.
The drain plug is 24mm.
To install the filter I unhooked the low pressure line from the radiator but left the other end attached. To cut the hose I used a Craftsman 9-37310 3 in 1 AccuCut. You could cut the hose in place but there is not much room to work. If you try to cut the hose with a knife the cuts will be ragged and most likely not straight.
Another thing I should have been more clear about: After I drained the trans I put the plug back in, reinstalled the cover, and lower the car to the ground. When I am running the car through Park, Drive, Neutral, and Reverse it is on the ground and I am pressing the brake. The hand brake is also on.
I have flushed the transmission in the car twice with Mobil 1 synthetic fluid. When I did the first flush the Volvo spec "JWS-3309" was listed on the Mobil 1 bottle. When I did the flush in this video I used 5 quarts of Mobil 1 that I had left over with the Volvo spec "JWS-3309" listed on the bottle. The new bottles of Mobil 1 I used did not have "JWS-3309" listed but I did not notice until after I did the flush. I have put about 25,000 miles on this car since I flushed the trans and it is running very well.
For some reason Mobil has dropped the JWS-3309 spec For Mobil 1 trans fluid. I don't know why.
