In this video I will show you how to make a kimono inspired cover up, jacket, cardigan, top... whatever you want to call it. It's a great piece to add to your wardrobe.
Although I don't recommend this project for a complete sewing beginner it is an easy project and would be easy to make for a confident beginner and more advanced sewists. In this video I will teach you how to draft the pattern and create the garment. I suggest creating a kimono with some cheap fabric and adjusting the measurements to your liking before making one out of a fabric you absolutely love. This project is designed to be very loose fitting and can be worn without or without a belt. Feel free to dress it up or down. Such a versatile little piece!
For this project we will also sew french seams. If you are not familiar with this technique for finishing seams please watch my video on sewing french seams here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5JsrDXJCxTk
When choosing your fabric for this type of project you want to make sure you get something light, airy, sheer and that drapes nicely. This will help add that flowy feeling to the garment. I recommend any lightweight and sheer fabric like chiffon for this kimono.
Here is the list of fabrics I showed you in this video:
• Ivory/Black Geometric Triangle Poly Chiffon: http://bit.ly/1cMUHeW
• Black/White Polka Dot Chiffon: http://bit.ly/Mq4xJo
• Off-White/Black Polka Dot Chiffon: http://bit.ly/1bjDLse
• White/Jade/Plum Abstract Watermark Stretch Silk Chiffon: http://bit.ly/1k3evP1
