Detailed view of Extrusion Lobe collapse, Sinabung Volcano

The collapsing extrusion lobe generates an about 3 km long pyroclastic flow which is also shown in the video. The extrusion lobe is essentially an extremely viscous and thus slow-flowing andesitic lava flow typical of Sinabung Volcano eruptions. The gases trapped in the lava are released as the rocks fall and are smashed as they cascade down the mountain side resulting in the lethal hot cloud of ash particles called pyroclastic flow.
