T/I: 11:01:25 Turkish-Cypriot forces shot dead a Greek-Cypriot and wounded two United Nations peacekeepers in a new outbreak of ethnic violence on Cyprus Wednesday (14/8). The Greek-Cypriot protestor was shot after he broke through barbed wire on the edge of the Turkish-Cypriot zone at Dherinia in eastern Cyprus. He was climbing a flagpole to tear down a Turkish flag when he was shot in the head. The shooting happened near the spot where another Greek-Cypriot, who was also protesting against the Turkish occupation of norther Cyprus, was beaten to death on Sunday (11/8) in some of the worst violence seen since the invasion. After his funeral on Wednesday (14/8) hundreds of protestors stormed into no-man's land in Dherinia and threw stones until the Turkish-Cypriot police opened fire.
