Action cameras have become increasingly popular over the past few years, largely thanks to the desire to capture extreme sports and drone footage. GoPro is the name that first comes to mind but there are a number of other strong, and much cheaper, alternatives on the market, like the Crosstour Action Camera 4k which we’ll be looking at today.
To start with as the name, Crosstour Action Camera 4K 16MP Wifi Underwater 30M with Remote Control IP68 Waterproof Case, may indicate. Comes with a large amount of accessories to help you in all your photo and video capturing scenarios.
The nature of action cameras for sports and extreme photo taking means that your camera may find itself in a number of risky situations. To comfortably get that great action photo you need to be able to get your camera in some unusual positions. Without the concern that you are going to smash your equipment. To achieve that you’re going to need the right equipment!
To be honest there are so many different attachment accessories, I couldn’t really see me using half of them. However there was one I almost always had to use even for basic photo taking. The waterproof case has an attachment point on the bottom meaning it’s impossible to just sit your action camera down flat. To achieve this you will need to add the following attachment to provide a balanced and flat base. I also used the same base for some of my more “extreme” photo ops. Spoiler alert, they aren’t that extreme! Combining this attachment with a wrist strap attached was great for taking the action camera swimming and water slides.
As with most action cameras like this they do not come waterproof as standard. To give them their water proof rating you need to use the provided casing.
I’m pleased to say the design of the case is solid and easy to use. The clip mechanism means you can confidently get an all-around seal quickly and easily. Even when it wasn’t essential I would just use the case anyway as without it, the camera can actually feel quite fragile.
Image quality fortunately is great! When underwater the photos and video are really clear and vibrant. As with all action cameras a wide angle lens is used which creates a distinct photo type. This kind of lens is not best suited to close up portraits as it distorts features slightly. This lens really shines when it comes to action (as you might have guessed from the name)! Helping to give an exciting look to pictures that works especially well under water and with large vistas.
The Crosstour Action Camera is a lot cheaper than a GoPro. The purpose for which I was looking for an action camera means that the GoPro was immediately out of my price range. For that reason alone the Crosstour series was a winner in my book.
As far as quality comparison go, having never owned a GoPro, I am not qualified to comment. However, there are a lot of decent comparison videos I came across that helped cement my decision to go for the Crosstour Action Camera vs GoPro. I’ll link a few of them in the description below.

When I bought the Crosstour Action Camera I decided to take a gamble. Giving such a low price I figured it would be a nice extra camera for use on the beach and at waterparks. As with all action cameras, it is not suitable for all situations. I wouldn’t recommend it as a replacement for taking everyday family photos, regular portrait or close facial images. Also the terrible audio quality means it’s not great for regular home videos.
However, when it is used as intended it really shines. You can capture almost any crazy picture you can think of with the myriad of attachments and photos come out looking extra action packed. Just don’t expect it to be your camcorder replacement and you’ll be happy.
I personally would recommend checking out the CT8500. It costs a little extra but despite the lower model number it adds in the extra stabilize and time lapse video features.

Judging the Crosstour Action Camera 4K 16MP Wifi Underwater 30M with Remote Control IP68 Waterproof Case purely as an action camera and not a camcorder replacement I can happily give it an:
