Crocodile vs. Pregnant Wildebeest vs. Adult Hippopotamous @ The Mara River, Tanzania, Africa

(Part 4) On 10/20/2011 My Grandfather and I were on Safari in Tanzania and had the incredible fortune of following a massive herd of mostly wildebeest and zebra as they flanked the banks of the Mara river and even more amazingly witnessed their eventual decision to cross the river right in front of us. (This was during the tail end of the great migration north....Once one decided to go, thousands followed). Fairly swiftly a pregnant wildebeest was picked off by a croc (estimated to be 16 ft) although it caught her at a disadvantageous angle and just hovered with her leg in his mouth. The two struggled for over an hour with one another while most astonishing of all was the unexplainable behavior of a full grown hippo straying from its pod in what appeared to be a rescue/interference attempt on behalf of the sweet preggo beestie.
